Using Laxatives As Constipation Remedies

April 30, 2012.

Constipation plagues nearly everyone at some point in their life. Maybe your wife just had a baby and the screaming infant is causing you so much stress that your bowel have constricted completely, not allowing any room at all for stool to pass through.

Or maybe you are like me, and do not drink nearly as much water as you should in order to prevent your colon from becoming dehydrated. Or perhaps you just do not eat as much fiber as you should, or get enough exercise, or eat a healthy diet. Whatever the reason, you have constipation, and you are looking for constipation remedies in order to make the pain go away. Well you are in luck today because I have a great constipation remedy here for you.

When you are suffering from chronic constipation, most people turn immediately towards laxatives. Which is perfectly acceptable, so long as you do not abuse the laxatives. Laxatives work by causing your muscles in your colon, your bowel muscles, to contract many times in a row in order to stimulate a bowel movement. If you are severely blocked up, then using laxatives is going to be a painful experience for you. In fact, anyone who uses a laxative in order to relieve constipation is in for at least some pain and cramping. The thing about laxatives is that they are only meant to be used as an emergency reliever, or as a last resort. They are not meant to be used multiple times a week in order to cure chronic constipation. Laxatives can become addicting, which can be life threatening. This is why you should only use laxatives occasionally, when you absolutely have to. If you suffer from chronic constipation, I recommend going the long route on your way to relief. There are other, gentler constipation remedies than laxatives that you can look into, such as increasing your fiber intake. If you suffer from chronic constipation, taking laxatives all the time will not solve your problem. It will only serve to make it worse.
